Jomsvikings!
Here’s another couple of guys I painted up last week. My photographing has trouble keeping up with my painting, as always, so these guys have been waiting for a few days.
As I might have mentioned earlier, this is a single unit of mercenary vikings intended for use in Hail Caesar, as a separate division with its own commander. The unit will be sixteen strong, which also translates into four points of Hearthguard in Saga – I’ve been playing on and off as Pagan Rus using my existing Viking warband, so having some Eastern-looking models will come in handy for that too.
It’s my second time round painting some of these models – last year I painted a complete Jomsviking warband for a friend and I absolutely loved the models, so I didn’t need much convincing when I chose these! I gave mine a bit of a unified theme unlike the other models in my army, as I wanted the unit to look internally cohesive. There’s eight more guys plus the warlord coming up, although one of my other Jomsviking blisters was mispackaged and will need to be swapped at Salute.
That’s it for now! There’s Dacian and Crusader goodness coming later this week, so stay tuned!
They turned out nicely. The contrasting colours make them pop and add variety. The blond beards came out nice, too. What base colour and highlight colour do you use?
I use a variety of off-whites for my beards followed by a simple brown wash… So all I can say is: try the GW shades!
Cool way to do it. I guess you use Agrax Earthshade?
That and seraphim sepia, and nuln oil for the darker browns.
Nicely done. I like the metal work: the helmets look “the business.”
Yes very nice, just sarted my Anglo Danish warband yesterday, really nice casts from Gripping Beast, keep the pictures coming!!
Might have to get that starter warband too some day, just to get some variety in my models. Nice Warlord model they have, too. Enjoy!
