Unarmoured Late Roman infantry
I said I was going to focus on my new Late Roman project in 2015, so what better way to show my commitment than to throw some more paint at the lead pile?
Again, these are a mix of Musketeer and Gripping Beast models; the following units will all be Gripping Beast exclusively. However I must say I am quite tempted to pick up some of those glorious character models from Musketeer Miniatures. I have a fairly modest command stand for this army which I’m in the process of preparing, but with games like Sword & Spear being rather commander-heavy they wouldn’t go amiss.
Painting-wise everything was handled as with the previous unit, although I did experiment with the shield designs a bit more.
I’m contemplating doing a unit a month for this project so I can bring the project to a close fast – February will however bring a more modest reinforcement to this army. Most likely the general, or a unit of archers. I’ll also be re-examining my basing principles for this army as I’ve heard rumours of a future Saga supplement set in an around the 5th century. Most likely I’ll be basing some of my models separately on 20x20mm bases – enough for a decent warband. We’ll have to see how that pans out, though.
Up next: probably some more gladiators, Turcomans and, of course, Prussians. Tah!
Great looking figures, nice detailing on the shields.
