Broken Elbow!

I figured I’d provide an explanation as to why the blog hasn’t seen an update in over a month so, if the title of this post wasn’t clean enough already, here goes!

After some other activities that kicked off my summer (such as the Waterloo reenactment) I finally readied myself for a week of living the good life in Rovinj, Croatia. Of course, as Murphy’s Law would have it, on the third day I slipped on a rock whilst walking into the sea and fell on my elbow. Medical care in Croatia consisted of a Cold War-style sanatorium type of building with two doctors in it, one of which had a glass eye and spoke limited German. Combined with my own limited German this provided some fun times for all… Or not.

Rovinj, Istria. One of the most beautiful places I've ever visited.

Still, we completed our holiday in good order and managed to visit plenty of fantastic places around the peninsula. Our rental car was registered solely on my name and my girlfriend had left her driver’s licence at home, but she still drove us around. Born to be wild!

Dvigrad, a fantastic castle ruin that's completely free to visit and unguided whatsoever. Just don't fall off the hill.

Since then I’ve been at home, trying to cope with my reduced mobility and dexterity. Getting dressed is a chore, I can’t cut my meat properly, and of course… painting. Painting is possible but only painstakingly so, as I have to tilt my arm in an awkward fashion to wield a brush, and this tires me out quickly. It’s been five weeks now and I’m seeing minor improvement, though it’s much too soon to be able to tell when I’ll be back to full operational strength.

Groznjan, or something. I could have stayed inside and cried over my elbow, but chose to man up much like the cuirassier on my shirt would have done.

To make matters worse, my girlfriend and I are currently in the process of moving house. I wasn’t a weightlifter before the accident either, but not being able to help move our furniture is infuriating. Couldn’t have come at a worse time.

Still, before the accident happened I did complete some work which I haven’t shown you yet, and I’ll try to photograph and post them on here in the coming weeks. It’s a mixed bag – Cuirassiers, Prussians, Crusaders, Fallschirmjäger. More output will follow piecemeal and I probably won’t be back in full force until the trees shed their leaves. Still, I hope you enjoyed this little update and check back soon for more!
